EarthLink Enhances EarthLink trueVoice
18 October 2005
EarthLink (Nasdaq: ELNK), the nation's next generation Internet service provider (ISP), today announced the next generation of its Voice-over-IP (VoIP) service, EarthLink trueVoice(TM). The service offers considerable cost-savings over traditional telephone
service and now includes tools that further enhance the customer's Internet-based, voice communication experience.
EarthLink has a well earned reputation for innovative protection tools and services, such as Pop-Up Blocker(R), Spyware Blocker(TM) and spamBlocker. EarthLink trueVoice builds on that reputation by enabling customers, through their myVoice portal, to manage a blocked caller list, which helps stop annoying phone callers from ringing or leaving voicemail messages. Up to ten telephone numbers can be blocked at any time, and subscribers can add or delete phone numbers from that list at their convenience.
A customer's address book can also be integrated between EarthLink trueVoice and his or her EarthLink High Speed account, if the customer subscribes to both. Contact information is stored on EarthLink Webmail servers, and when subscribers access it from their myVoice portal, the appropriate voice information is shown. Changes or additions are automatically updated on the servers, regardless of phone numbers, physical
addresses or email addresses, ensuring consistency between the two services.
Non-access EarthLink trueVoice subscribers are assigned an EarthLink email address, which enables them to store contact information from their portal onto EarthLink's Webmail servers.
"If VoIP is the future of voice communications, then EarthLink trueVoice is the preferred option for consumers that want a premier service," said Steve Howe, EarthLink's vice president of voice services. "Cool, new, time-saving features along with a user-friendly, intuitive portal will create the same experience for our VoIP subscribers that EarthLink Internet access subscribers have already come to expect - an individualized communications service with great products, tools and customer service."
EarthLink trueVoice customers can further enhance their experience by signing up for Enhanced Call Forwarding, which will enable them to add up to five telephone numbers where they can be reached, if they are away from their primary VoIP number. Subscribers can control the sequence of which phone rings first and for how long, or set a 'blast', in which all five phones ring simultaneously and the incoming call is connected to the device that is answered first. This service is available for $4.95 a month.
EarthLink trueVoice is a plug-and-play solution that can be installed in minutes to work on any touch-tone phone. Customers can use a standard router to split their broadband connection between their computer and the ATA. The ATA box, which is provided for free in the EarthLink trueVoice start-up kit, converts the digital signal to an analog telephone signal. The phone is then plugged into the ATA delivering dial tone and a high-quality connection. Some of the standard features that are available at no extra charge include
voicemail, three-way calling, and call forwarding.
Consumers can sign-up for EarthLink trueVoice and enjoy unlimited local, regional and long distance calling. Calling plans start at $14.95 per month. For more information about EarthLink's voice services please go to http://www.earthlink.net/voice.
