Library Services

Tampere Library is a large, modern and impressive library service enjoyed by many. The

Director, Tuula Martikainen, is a major player in the Infocity sub program of eTampere.

The library is seen as an important part of eTampere, mainly because it introduced the

Internet so early, and was the first in Tampere to have public access to it in 1995. There

are over 1 million site visits to the library s website.

Tampere Library offers two levels of online services to customers: Intro and IntroActive.

The functions it offers are:

  information search from the library material database, on one search criteria using

Browse, or on more diverse options using Search,

  availability data on the item (on shelf, which library, on loan, reservations, etc.),

  reservation through the availability data display,

   customer data  option helps keep track of loans, extend loans and cancel reservations.

IntroActive is a special service package of the library s network service. The monthly

service fee is FIM 9 (EUR 1.51), which the program automatically transfers to the 

customer s debit balance.

The functions it offers are:

  reminder of the due date: the program sends a reminder to the customer s e mail or

IntroActive message box when a due date is approaching. The customer determines

how many days in advance this will be made,

  transmission of a collection note of a reservation to the customer s e mail, GSM text

message, or IntroActive message box and/or by ordinary post, 

  informing the customer of new items purchased by the library according to search cri 

teria specified by the customer, either to the customer s e mail and /or IntroActive

message box,

  reservations for items in the library,

  the customer can transfer and store information on the new items onto his or her

 own shelves .
