Affordable access strategy

BCC aims to ensure that people have access to new technologies regardless of their

circumstances. This includes access to:

  equipment (computers, etc),

  infrastructure (high speed cabling and telecommunication lines), and

  connection to the Internet.

Library Services is involved in this strategy by purchasing subscriptions to online data 

bases which are available in house and remotely; offering free access to word process 

ing; and helping bridge the digital divide, not only in accessing information, but also in

improving skills in how to use the information sourced.

http://www.ourbrisbane.com has been designed to alter the way BCC and its 

customers interact. It provides opportunities to look at new ways of working and to

enhance policy design. This represents opportunities to develop new competencies, and

access to skills training, (specifically IT skills and business analysis skills), leading to

new career opportunities for staff. Within the organisation, it will necessitate greater IT

access and more rapid assimilation of the new technologies.
