In Fairfax, Virginia, the success of their kiosks has led to a queue of partners at the
door of the county. These include Fairfax County Economic Development Authority,
Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments, Inova Health Systems, Virginia
Railway Express, Metrobus and Metrorail, City of Fairfax and Virginia Department of
Motor Vehicles (DMV). In 2002/3, the partnership with DMV will implement DMV's
estraTeller program in all kiosks, which is expected to allow citizens to renew driving
licenses and vehicle registration from all county kiosks as well as DMV locations.
The excellence of the Fairfax website was given as the reason why Inova Health
Systems, a local health corporation, entered into a partnership with the library. Inova
committed $40,000 to the partnership, which jointly distributes health information via
the organisations' websites, the library kiosks and other media.
Windsor, Ontario is another example of successful partnership design, with funding for
the various initiatives coming from the following sources:
HRDC (Human Resources Development Canada) provided funds for computers,
furniture and Internet access for job banks.
Industry Canada (federal government department) funded machines for Internet
access in every library (Urban Community Access Program, or Urban CAP).
Industry Canada and Libraries Branch (provincial) funded the Telecommunications
Access Program (TAP) providing funding for telecommunications (the partnership in
the community broadband initiative) via Network 2000.
Gates funding for equipment, software and installation at all low income cut off
(LICO) neighbourhoods.
Library board (municipal) funds equipment and Internet access.
In Brantford Ontario, the public library has become a satellite campus of Wilfred
Laurier University. This example of partnership depends heavily on technology links
with the university and demonstrates how a partnership within the learning sector can
benefit citizens, to the advantage of other agencies, as well. The work of the Brant
FreeNet and the Brantford Public Library in making the digital age accessible to all is
highlighted in The New National Dream: Networking the Nation for Broadband
Access.

community based success stories . A cluster of programs at the main library includes
the Brant FreeNet, the Business Self Help Office, the Literacy Council of Brantford and
District, and the Brant Business Information Network.
