Technology Issues That Grantmakers Are Not Prepared to Address 

Integration of Database Software to Other Applications 

For integration, the highest priority is to link the grants management system to the 

accounting systems. Specific response examples include: 

 Interface to Blackbaud Financial Edge for payables information  

 User friendly reliable interface to at least one accounting software  

 Link MicroEdge to Blackbaud  

 Would like one system instead of FinancialEdge RaisersEdge and MicroEdge  

 Full integration with other platforms such as document management, contact 

management portals and search  

 Better integration with MS Office products and our Web site  

Security 

Finally, security and disaster recovery was cited as a challenge for many foundations. 

Nearly all (98%) foundations reported having some security measures in place (Table A 

11). The most common measures include desktop virus protection (90%), server virus 

protection (68%) and hardware firewalls (65%). Forty percent of respondents reported 

updating virus signatures on all servers, workstations and laptops on a daily basis and 

another 25 percent reported updating virus signature files weekly (Table A 12).
