Grantmakers Information Technology Survey Report
V. Challenges/Emerging Issues
Technology Issues That Grantmakers Are Not Prepared to Address
Expansion and Maintenance of Website
Purposes for Which Website Is Used (n = 307)
1 Do not have a website
2 Provide general information about the foundation and its programs
3 Provide general information about issues the foundation funds
4 Publish foundation reports
5 Search grants database
6 Accept applications online
7 Accept grantee reports online
In contrast, less than 30 percent of foundations reported using a staff intranet to
communicate and share information with staff and board members (Table A 6). Of those
foundations that do have an intranet, it is used to provide general administrative (HR,
accounting, travel) policy information, to link to useful resources, to share online forms
such as travel expenses and petty cash reimbursement and to manage collaborative work
processes.
More than 50 percent of foundations reported relying on an outside vendor to maintain
the content on the foundation's website. This dependence on outside vendors may
account for why most foundations have not yet added interactive components such as
online grant applications to their website and are challenged by how to expand and
upgrade their websites.
