D. Independent Foundations Snapshot 

Up to date Technology Plan (n = 82)

Consistent with the other foundation types, the amount independent foundations are 

spending on technology and the corresponding percentage of the annual operating budget 

that is comprised of technology expenditures varies greatly, with foundations reporting 

spending less than $1,000 per year on technology up to more than $1 million. However, a 

greater percentage of independent foundations are spending more money on technology 

than other foundation types, with 19 percent spending between $50,000 and $249,900, 7 

percent spending between $250,000 and $1 million and 10 percent spending over $1 

million annually.
