D. Independent Foundations Snapshot

Independent foundations tend to adopt new technology faster than the other foundation 

types, with more than three quarters (84%) of independent foundations describing 

themselves as leading edge (28%) or fast follower (56%) adopters (Table A 3). Far fewer 

(1%) independent foundations reported their technology adoption as in trouble. With 

respect to technology planning, 24 percent of independent foundations reported having a 

technology plan (Table A 4). Again, this is consistent with corporate foundations and 

higher than community and family foundations.
